In his powerful new photo book Limitless Africans, queer Nigerian-Swedish American photographer Mikael Owunna, a finalist in the 2019 FotoEvidence Book Award with World Press Photo, documents the compelling stories of over thirty LGBTQ African immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in ten countries in North America, the Caribbean and Europe. Through these narratives which are presented as portraits of the subjects accompanied by excerpted interviews, Owunna explores precolonial African sexuality and contemporary LGBTQ African narratives to debunk the myth that it is ‘un-African’ to be LGBTQ.
