Jim Henson Lights Up the CJM

The Contemporary Jewish Museum

Holy guacamole; they’ve found it. Lovers and dreamers: it’s the Rainbow Connection! Right here in the Yerba Buena neighborhood, nestled in downtown San Francisco.

The Contemporary Jewish Museum is to thank for this stroke of magic. They’ve brought The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited to their galleries, where it will live until August 14.

Kermit the Frog was created by Henson in 1955 for a T.V. segment in Washington, D.C.. Over time, the puppet gained vast popularity, and is figured to be Henson’s alter-ego in puppet form.

Henson is the creative powerhouse behind a mountain of popular movies and television programs. He conceived the cast of characters in The Muppets and created several widely popular characters for Sesame Street. Big Bird is one example; the inimitable Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch are other fine brainchildren of his, and the list goes on!

In addition to being a visionary puppeteer, he was also a keen filmmaker, performer, and television pioneer.

The exhibit engages visitors in a blissfully innocent exploration of Henson’s singular comedic genius-magic throughout his sundry career.
