Thrive @ Community Free Day: Free Admission at the MoAD Feb. 11

On Saturday, Feb. 11, visit the Museum of the African Diaspora for free during its Thrive @ Community Free Day. Every second Saturday, Kaiser Permanente and the MoAD join forces to provide free admission for all visitors.

The New Black Vanguard: Photography between Art and Fashion, curated by Antwaun Sargent, is on view in the second and third floor galleries. Featuring 100 selected works from pioneering and iconic artists such as Tyler Mitchell, the first Black photographer hired by American Vogue to shoot a cover story and Gordon Parks and Dana Scruggs, the first Black photographers to shoot a cover for Rolling Stone in 2019. This expansive exhibition peers into “visual activism” with a look into fashion photography at its finest.

In the Salon, witness  Ashley Ross – 10/27/03 – an intimate exhibition pairing black and white photographs with personal documents from the artist’s life, exploring the nature of a religious upbringing.

Both of these exhibitions are showing through March 5.
